The Fontana Tranquility Garden celebrates Cornwall and Cornish
gardens. Garden designer Kim Parish has worked with sponsor,
Derek Bishop, 91 years young, to fulfil his life-long ambition to be part of a show garden.

Inspired by The Great Gardens of Cornwall, visitors are invited to
journey through the space to experience the garden as they would their own, seeing and enjoying the different areas, experiencing the various rooms, views, and features.

The focal point of the garden is the treetop room which creates a private viewing platform into the garden and the tranquil landscape beyond, a room outside to enjoy the garden in all seasons with a sheltered patio underneath providing an opportunity to sit, reflect and view the garden from another perspective.

The garden has several distinct areas of planting, semi shaded, tropical, subtropical and coastal.

Kim has been designing and building gardens since 1997 and is thrilled to unveil a very special garden at this year’s show.

“I am passionate about the power of nature and the support and comfort it can provide. We are delighted to produce this special gift for the hospice. The garden will offer quiet contemplation and a secluded treetop room, intimate seating and raised pool with
trickling water. The garden will be re-purposed and donated to Cornwall Hospice Care, where it can be enjoyed by all, including patients with more limited mobility, where the garden can be viewed from bedrooms and the patient lounge.”

A show garden is a lifetime ambition for 91-year-old Derek Bishop.

He has designed and constructed his own magnificent 14-acre-garden in SE Cornwall and commissioned award-winning garden designer Kim to design a garden that celebrates and reflects the diversity of planting opportunities within Cornwall.
